Our Salud Story
Where It All Began
Salud Para Vida is an independent natural foods, supplements and wellness store founded in June 2009 in San Pedro La Laguna on Lake Atitlán, Guatemala.
After more than 20 years in the corporate world, health, nutrition and vegetarianism had always been part of my life — with a few detours along the way. A trip to Guatemala in 2008 eventually brought me back to Lake Atitlán with an idea beginning to take shape: open the health food store in San Pedro that I had been looking for myself.
Around that same time, I met Lea, and we began building Salud Para Vida together. Lea brought years of customer-service experience and a natural ability to connect with people, while I brought a background in business, retail and marketing. Those different strengths became an important part of what Salud Para Vida would become. Together, we opened the doors in June 2009 — in a tiny shop beneath D'Noz Restaurant — with fresh greens, vitamins, incense, Guatemalan products, bulk foods, a shared kitchen and even a juicer I had carried down from the United States in my luggage.
The People of Salud
Salud Para Vida has always been about the people who make it what it is. Lea and I started it together, each bringing different strengths, and over the years our staff has become just as important a part of the Salud story.
We’re proud to have a team that is genuinely kind, friendly and helpful. They know our store, take time with people, and do their best to help whether someone is searching for a particular product, has a question, or just wants to look around. That personal, welcoming atmosphere is a big part of Salud, and the people who work here are the ones who make it possible.
What You’ll Find at Salud
Our shelves have grown a lot since that tiny first store. Today you’ll find natural foods, vitamins and supplements, medicinal herbs, superfoods, bulk foods, vegan and gluten-free options, natural health and beauty products, and much more.
We carry products made here in Guatemala alongside specialty foods and wellness products from around the world, while always looking for new products and better choices to bring to our customers. We pay attention to ingredients and try to offer plant-based and cleaner alternatives whenever possible.
The goal has always been simple: give people more choices and help them find products that fit the way they want to live.
Made at Salud
Over the years, we didn't just expand what we carried — we also began creating products of our own.
Our kitchen produces plant-based meats, cheeses, spreads, baked goods, desserts and other foods for the store and café. We also prepare our own teas and herbal blends and make vegan capsules with no fillers, including Lion’s Mane, Turkey Tail, Shiitake, Ashwagandha, Maca and more.
Making products ourselves has become another important part of Salud. It lets us pay attention to the ingredients, experiment with new ideas and create things we genuinely want to offer our customers.

San Pedro La Laguna has been our home since we opened Salud in 2009. Over the years, we’ve watched the town grow and change, and Salud has grown along with it. We’re grateful to have spent more than 17 years here on Lake Atitlán and to be part of a community that has become such an important part of our lives.

Giving back has always been part of Salud. Over the years, we’ve helped local children with school expenses and created a free children’s library upstairs.
Our Pay It Forward program provides meals for people in need. We’ll soon expand it in honor of our dear friend and first employee, Mike, whose generosity continues to inspire us.

Animals have always been part of life around Salud. Over the years, we’ve supported local dog and cat spay-and-neuter efforts and other animal-welfare work in the community. With so many animals in need around Lake Atitlán, helping where we can has always been important to us.
